Tangibly speaking, what is Festival of India: Twenty-seven brightly colored tents, a stage with state of the art sound system, dozens of dynamic displays, and attractive banners. Over one hundred attractively designed panel displays report and depict little known information on topics such as Reincarnation, Vegetarianism, Ancient and Modern Science, and Vedic Histories. A veritable gallery of illustrative art work, sculpture, and photographic reproductions complete Festival of India's illuminating image to the public eye. The Festival of India's stage hosts internationally renown traditional and contemporary musicians, dancers, and dramatic artists, not to mention lecturers and dignitaries in the fields of scholarship and government administration. But beyond the tangible, who can estimate the spiritual impact these festivals have had on millions of people. Spiritual Culture, Kirtan, Prasadam and Books.
About 25 to 40% FOI's annual operating expenses is covered by contributions from the general public, and the sale of Srila Prabhupada's books. Benediction Moon has given Festival Of India many books which all have gone into the hands of conditioned souls. When a person gets a book at a festival it is like throwing a seed in very fertile ground - they are at a festival experiencing the kirtan, tasting Krishna prasadam, and watching wonderful dramatic presentations on FOI's stage that touch their hearts, so when they receive a book in that atmosphere, it means a lot to them. The books they receive at the festivals are like transcendental souvenirs of the great festival they experienced. Contributing books to Festival Of India helps insure that Hare Krishna Festivals Of India will continue, and that people who go to those festivals will continue to receive Srila Prabhpada's books.
