Traveling Sankirtana Party

A Letter from His Holiness Danavir Goswami on August 23, 2009

Benediction Moon has graciously contributed funds to Rupanuga Vedic College (RVC) helping to making it possible for RVC to sell and distribute large quantities of Srila Prabhupada’s books (second highest in America).

Mostly RVC sells books by sending its traveling sankirtan parties throughout North America. This is expensive because of: a) higher gasoline prices, b) long distances to be traveled (our parties sometimes follow concert tours which means a different city every day and those cities may not be close to the each other.), c) purchasing specialized vehicles that carry large quantities of books, can run for many years, and sleep 3-5 devotees inside at night, d) maintaining the high costs safety of the vehicles, e) helping to maintain the RVC headquarters where administration, book storage, deity worship, training, etc. are done.

Since Benediction Moon’s help began in 2007 it has paid off. RVC has more than tripled its annual distribution from 17,000 book points to more than an estimated 60,000 book points in 2009.

The RVC traveling sankirtan party began with Paramesvara dasa Brahmacari. He is a former athlete and businessman as well as a veteran transcendental book distributor accustomed to placing first in American sales each year. He doesn’t talk much but when he does it generally results in someone buying Srila Prabhupada’s books. Currently he is America’s top distributor with 13,000 book points. Under his supervision the traveling party has grown substantially and now includes more team members.

Bhakta Mike McCoy: Bhakta Mike first came into contact with the Krishna Consciousness movement in December, 2007, at a cafe in downtown San Diego when a devotee walked by and handed him an invitation to the Sunday festival at the local ISKCON temple. After attending several Sunday festival programs, Bhakta Mike decided he would spend his free time introducing others to Krishna Consciousness. Consequently, the President of ISKCON San Diego invited him to spend weekends in the temple ashram. In July of 2008, Bhakta Mike decided to quit his job and devote all of his time toward spreading Krishna Consciousness. He began traveling sankirtan in August 2008, distributing books in towns and cities all over the United States and since then this has been his main service. He is presently the second top distributor of 2009 with 11,500 book points.

Bhakta Vassilios: Vassilios Korosidis was born in Athens, Greece on February 15, 1983. He grew up in New Jersey and attended college at Rutgers State University. During his studies at college, Vassilios wondered about the goal of life, and soon received copies of the books of His Divine Grace Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, including the "Bhagavad-Gita As It Is," from a friend. This took him on a spiritual journey that eventually led him to the Rupanuga Vedic College, on behalf of whom he travels around the United States distributing Srila Prabhupada's books. Currently Bhakta Vassilios is the in ninth top distributor in America with 5,200 book points distributed.

Raya Nitai dasa: Raya Nitai dasa joined and spent his early years at RVC beginning in 1999. He organizes his traveling party in a mini recreational vehicle with other distributors. Currently he is the seventh top distributor in North America with 7,700 book points.

We thank Benediction Moon devotees and pray for the blessings to be able to continue distributing more and more of Srila Prabhupada transcendental literature.
