Book Distribution everywhere she goes
For several years now, Benediction Moon has donated Bhaktivedanta Book Trust books to me and my husband, Apurva Prabhu, to distribute. At first I thought it was a one time offer, and I am repeatedly awestruck that they continue to supply books.
Receiving these books to distribute is like a dream come true, and very encouraging. I feel certain that Srila Prabhupada, the previous acaryas and the Lord want me to do this service of distributing these books.
In years gone by, although there were relatively few book distributors, we would be vying for perspective candidates to receive books, and approach them before the other distributors did. Now, here in the United States, we have a virtually untouched territory wherein people are interested in spiritual life and aware of metaphysics, like reincarnation and karma, etc., as they have never been before.
Although Srila Prabhupada delivered these teachings to the western world, presently people don’t even know that we are the carriers of such profound wisdom. Instead, people are learning about spiritual life from countless other “teachers”. Because we are not consistently out in the public on a large scale, they are not given the opportunity to come in contact with Krsna Consciousness.
Although I ask everyone for a donation for the books, because they are already paid for, even if their contribution is less than the printing cost, I can give them a book. This is especially true for students and nowadays many people who do not carry cash, but only debit or credit cards. They usually don’t feel comfortable giving their credit card number to me (a stranger). So, if they are sincerely interested, I tell them that they can have a book, because of the kindness and generosity of my friend, who purchased the book for them.
With the profit from the books, I help sponsor children’s projects. I am committed that the devotee children in my community grow up with fond memories of a happy childhood. I buy Krsna conscious children’s books for the library in our children’s room at our Temple. For all of the major festivals like Janmastami, Gaura-purnima, etc. I manage a children’s booth and I purchase art supplies, so the children can make a Krsna conscious project to take home with them.
Also, my daughter, Gaurangi-priya, teaches Bharata-natyam, and has recently acquired a house close to our Temple, with a large work shed in the back. From my book sales I was able to donate for some of the renovations of the shed into a dance studio. For the past two years we ran a week-long summer dance camp, for girls 4-9 years old, and I was able to provide scholarships for those unable to pay the full tuition.
The studio will also be used for a preschool and other children’s festivities.
I cannot thank Benediction Moon enough for their mercy. Because of their sincere desire to see souls receive the favor of the Lord’s devotional service, they continuously sponsor books.
